Music is Amazing

I am amazed at the power of music.  It ranges from soft to hard, classical to modern, upbeat to slow.  Some songs make me laugh, some make me want to dance or sing, and some make me cry.

How is it possible?  It’s like the music takes you back in time.  There are times when I hear a song and it brings me right back to where I was when I first heard it, or it makes me remember a time in my life so vividly – more vividly than pictures of the event itself.

And I love it.  I am in awe of how perfectly God uses music to touch my life at certain points, and I am thankful for that gift!

I wonder why music is capable of “time travel”?  I believe it triggers something in our sub-conscience minds.  Certain songs can trigger certain emotions, which triggers the event where you had that feeling.  It’s an interesting phenomenon that I haven’t fully thought about before, so excuse my ramblings 😛

When you do something memorable while listening to a specific song, your brain registers that song with that emotion.  That’s why some songs trigger the same emotions for me time and time again.  In addition, there have been times where I listened to the same song a lot during an extended period of times (a few months), so it reminds me of that time period in my life.

Why do I love music so much?  I think it’s because my dad would always play it in the car or at home.  He would sing with me all the time, too.  We still do it sometimes, though not as often as he’d like 🙂  I think another reason I love music is that it has the ability to take me back in time.  It makes it easier to relive my memories!  Lastly, when I play a song on the piano, it’s so much fun!  I feel excited because I was able to play the piece, and I have fun playing it.

Because of my love of acting, I have combined it with my love of singing and am now addicted to musical theater.  Especially the ones I have watched with my dad.

At some point, I want to be in certain musicals with certain roles (theater people call this a “dream role,” and I have several).

  • Guys and Dolls – and I want to be Adelaide 🙂
  • Fiddler on the Roof – I want to be one of the daughters.
  • Singing in the Rain – I want to be Kathy.
  • Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat – I’d like to be the narrator.

I love these musicals!

There.  I have just shared one of my life-long dreams with ya’ll.

Music is awesome!  Have I said that enough already?  😛

Until next time,

Hope Frances
