My Top 5 Favorite Things to Do on a Snow Day

Where I live today, it’s snowing.

A lot.

Yup. It was very nice out for the last few days, the snow was melting, and then WHAM! Today there’s a blizzard. Luckily, I was able to go to a modeling casting before the real snow started falling. When you live in a state where snow is no big deal, you take risks like that – even though the people from the South think you’re crazy.

Anyway, snowy days like this, where it’s advised (even in my winter hardy state) to stay home, make me feel like curling up on the couch next to the fire. They make me feel nice and safe inside my house, and (let’s face it) when it’s snowing outside, I don’t feel guilty for staying inside.

Actually, having been homeschooled, “snow days” are kind of a big joke. Growing up, my public-schooled friends would get snow days during the winter, but I didn’t. I mean, when you don’t have to leave your house to go to school so…

With all that said…here are my top five favorite things to do on a snow day!

1. Read a Good Book

There’s nothing better than curling up on the couch with a super engrossing novel, or a stack of must-reads – especially when you can have the fireplace going and the cat on your lap! You have an excuse to read longer too since there’s a blizzard outside and you can’t go anywhere!

2. Bake Muffins or Cookies

My absolute favorite muffin recipe is my great grandma’s banana muffin recipe. If I’m making cookies, I normally make peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. Yum! I just love baking in general, but when it’s snowing, I don’t know… There’s just something about baking while you’re trapped inside that gives me a secure and happy feeling! I also enjoy listening to audios or music while I’m busy in the kitchen. I’m weird in that I like to be actively doing something while I listen to things…I don’t like to just sit still and listen. Doing activities while I’m listening to things really enhances the listening experience for me.

3. Work Out

When I work out, I feel accomplished, happier, and healthier. Therefore, I try my best to work out 6 times a week. We have a bonus room in our house above the garage which we have made into a workout room, so I’ll go up there and work out! Of course, I enjoy working out on non-snowy days, but it’s easier to work out on snowy days because I don’t have anywhere to go.

4. Write

Whether it’s writing blog posts (like this one!) or working on my novels, I greatly enjoy writing! I’m currently working on 2 novels that I hope to publish someday – both are fiction. What I like most about writing is when I get “in the zone” and I just can’t stop! Those are the most fun and fulfilling times for me as a writer and life in general.

5. Play Games with My Family

As I mentioned earlier, I was homeschooled, so my family is really close. I’m not saying you can’t be close as a family if you go to public school. I just don’t think my family would be this close if I and my siblings had gone to public school. That said, family game night is both awesome and very competitive! We all like to win 😉 But despite our competitive nature, we always laugh a lot and grow closer 🙂

And there you go!

These five things are not the only things I do on a snowy day, but they are my favorites! I am looking forward to summer and the melting of the snow.

But don’t you think I’ll lose my snow days!

In the summer, they’ll turn into “thunderstorm days,” which are actually more fun because I am fascinated by the lightning and thunder 😉

Until next time,

Hope Frances
