The War of Art – Book Review
Last month, I read an intriguing little book called The War of Art.
In a nutshell, the War of Art shows its readers how they can push through their fears, doubts, and what the book calls resistance to achieve what they were made to accomplish.
Here are just a few nuggets I got out of this book:
1 – Resistance will ALWAYS be there trying to stop you!
No matter how many times you figure out how to defeat resistance, it will find a new method of attack to tear you down. Knowing your enemy’s behaviors will help you defeat it easier! Try to predict your enemy’s next moves in order to conquer resistance before it strikes!
2 – EVERYBODY struggles with resistance.
There is not one person who is immune to resistance. It tries to stop all people from achieving greatness and it uses the lie of “you’re the only one in the whole world who ISN’T qualified…” to trick you into defeat. Don’t fall for it.
3 – If you’re NOT feeling resistance, you’re doing it wrong.
If there is NO resistance in your life, you’re probably not doing it right. Anything worth doing will bring on resistance. Think about it. If you’re not doing anything worthwhile, why would the resistance try to stop you? It’s only when you’re heading in the right direction that you will feel resistance. Resistance is a sign that you’re doing it right.
4 – Start today. Start NOW!
The VERY BEST WAY to defeat the resistance is to just start doing the thing you were called to do and to keep doing it! When should you start? NOW! Do it now before the resistance has time to take hold of you and keep you from doing it. Action conquers fear (that’s also a principle found in The Magic of Thinking Big).
5 – The difference between a pro and an amateur is persistence.
Hobby or profession? That depends on how well you stick to it or how committed you are. Be fully committed to your dream and pour your best effort into defeating the resistance, and you will rise to the top with the pros.
Final Thoughts
Basically, to be different and get different results, you’re going to have to do something different. Now that’s not mind-blowing, but it is significant. Resistance will try to keep you from doing something different, and it’ll make it seem a lot more reasonable to do so.
But whatever you do, don’t let it steal your dream or your victory.
Until next time,
Hope Frances
