Rushed Creativity, Its Results, and What I Learned :)
I was trying to think of something cool to blog about today, and I thought it would be fun to do a time lapse drawing.
Drawing is something I’ve always enjoyed, but I sadly don’t ever seem to have enough time for it. But today was going to be different. Today I was going to draw something for the first time in at least a year. It’s so easy to just get lost in a drawing…to just not even notice anything else. I love to turn on my music and just get absorbed in my work. It’s relaxing and satisfying. So, since I haven’t had time for it in such a long time, I did this today.
I learned a few things from it. Can you guess what those things were? 😀
So there you go! I did it! My first drawing in like a year!
The bear is a stuffed animal… It looks like this in real life:
Okay, so here’s what I learned:
1.
Don’t start a drawing and expect it to be perfect when you don’t have time to make it perfect.
Why?
Because when you put down a drawing and come back to it later, the lighting is different on both the subject being drawn and your environment. That can really mess you up. Now if you’re drawing from a picture, then it doesn’t really matter. But I was drawing a 3-D subject (aka, not a picture), so that wasn’t going to work. I actually worked on it 40 minutes longer than I had planned and had to rush getting out the door to my play rehearsal.
Oops.
Lastly, I didn’t get to put as much detail into it as I would normally like to. It nearly drove me crazy to leave it so “imperfect” in my eyes. Actually, I went back later while I was getting ready and when I got home and made some tweaks…. What? I’m a perfectionist 😛
2.
When you’re right handed, set the camera up on the LEFT side of you so your hand doesn’t block most of the drawing. 🙂
Double oops. Sorry about that!
3.
Set up the subject you’re drawing straight in front of you, and not to the side. This makes it harder to look at and draw the proportions correctly. I think that because I had to keep turning and looking to the side (and because I was in such a hurry!) the proportions were way harder to get right!
All good points to consider for next time, right? 😀
Long story short, I will make sure I have a lot more time to complete a drawing to my satisfaction before starting one next time 😉
Here’s a picture of the bear when I completed it (after I made alterations not seen on camera…Ha!):
Every once in a while, it’s good to do something purely for fun. It’s even more nice when that thing involves creativity and satisfaction like drawing. 🙂
And remember, in everything in life, learn from your mistakes. My next time lapse drawing is sure to be much better than this one!
Until next time,
Hope Frances
