My First Experiences in Canada
I’m currently sitting on top of the rooftop porch attached to the place we’re staying in Vancouver, Canada. The view is amazing, and I can see the city with all the mountains in the background!
Today marks my 14th day in Canada — which is officially the second country outside of the United States I’ve been to.
So far, it’s been extremely enjoyable! One of my dreams is to travel to as many countries as I can, so I was all too glad to put Canada in my passport 😉
For my fellow Americans who’ve never been to Canada, here are a few differences (in no particular order) between the two countries that I’ve noticed so far:
The crosswalks sound like birds
This is small…but makes walking across the street more pleasant 😉
Their money is colored
Honestly, I don’t know why ours isn’t. It’s pretty creative if you think about it!
Fast food restaurants are far less common
You’re more likely to see local restaurants and shops than fast food (although they still do have McDonald’s, Wendys, etc).
People seem a little nicer
I’ve mostly noticed this at grocery stores and restaurants, but people smile more and are a bit more polite to strangers.
Honestly, I don’t feel like I’m in a different country, but it’s still so exciting to experience new things (food, culture, and scenery)!
In the spirit of trying new things (mostly in terms of food so far), I tried actual sushi for the first time (raw fish), and dim sum. Both are so delicious and I’d highly recommend trying them!
In short, I’m having a blast, and my goal is to live in the moment and experience all I can 🙂
Until next time,
Hope Frances
